#217 Seth Godin once said, “Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.” Do you think it’s possible? A perfect life in which you will love your job, have a great partner, joyous parents, lots of friends who love you, and basically have everything that you’ve ever dreamt about? Well, Seth wasn’t referring to achieving a perfect life. He was talking about a life that you can be happy to live.
You don’t wake up every morning and struggle just to make your day exciting and fulfilling. It’s all about PASSION, not PERFECTION. That would mean planning your holiday but with a feeling of excitement, not hope and relief that you will get to escape from your life for a while, from that job that squeezes your energy to the bottom, from that relationship in which you can’t breathe, or that community that keeps putting you down.
If you can easily relate to that, then you need to tune in to this episode with Matt Omo and me. At Live In Flow, we help people make that very difficult change. Any change is way better than your current state. Any change will bring you emotions better than those you have now. Take the necessary first step and you’ll be on your way to creating a better life for yourself. Every journey starts with the first step and we are here to help you along the way.

Guy (00:11):
All right. We here
Matt (00:13):
We’re at the, finally we made it to the retreat. We’re that guy, the marsh retreat in may.
Guy (00:18):
It is,
Matt (00:18):
It’s still happening.
Guy (00:19):
Welcome to the podcast. So it’s kind of the irony is, is that, um, before every retreat, um, things tend to, I dunno, there seems to be like a random chaos that starts to come in and even setting up this podcast. Cause we thought we’ll get there, we’ll get it early. We’ll do a quick 20 minute, 30 minute podcast. And, and all of a sudden we’ve evaporated time. If you could actually see behind the camera right now and see the way things are set up, boy,
Matt (00:45):
, it’s pretty sketchy. We got ropes and pillows and boxes holding things together here.
Guy (00:49):
Yeah, that’s right. Yeah. So, so anyway, welcomes the podcast and we wanted to discuss the topic because the irony is not irony, but we spend a lot of time together. Like, when you think about it, cuz we run the workshops, we’re off lead flyer in the car. So we get a lot of this time where we, we are constantly reflecting, discussing, and looking to improve upon our knowledge, the way we present the work and how we move forward. Right. Mm-hmm so that leads to some pretty deep conversations down
Matt (01:23):
The rabbit hole conversations. Yeah.
Guy (01:24):
Yeah. Which is exciting and which is phenomenal. And it was a big part. I was actually missing in my life. And really, I think one of the key things for us when we created living fro did live inro
Matt (01:35):
To, in fro
Guy (01:36):
To and fro live in flow. I need to slow down a bit. You can tell, I’ve been racing around all morning, uh, was to be able to bring people together and normalize these conversations and make this part of a normal culture. Um, that’s been dearly important to me and I think is definitely missing from Western society in general.
Matt (01:56):
Well, a hundred percent. Mm. I mean, that’s that, if you look at it, if you go back through history, there was a huge spiritual component to the culture and the traditions and the, um, ceremonies and things that they held. Right. And it was all part of, you know, the rights of passages through there from childhood to adulthood and all life transitions yeah. Were held in a sacred way, which is something that we’ve lost, you know, we’ve lost that connection to spirit. So yeah. To normalize that is to go back to who we truly are. I think
Guy (02:26):
Hence normalize it. Yeah. Right. Not to make it feel like it’s a complete woo woo kind of thing. And, and the one thing if, um, the last two and a half years, three years has taught me personally, is that how much we are actually craving this work, but we don’t even know what we’re craving. It’s like we can’t put a finger on it.
Matt (02:47):
Yeah. Well I think you say the work, the work quite a lot. Yeah. But I think it’d be important to UN unpack what that work is and what that’s actually creating. Well, the,
Guy (02:55):
The work is a tool to get, allow us to find our true essence at the end of the day. So all this, what we do and present, I guess, are tools and space to allow us to navigate back to the truth of who we are
Matt (03:07):
To reconnect,
Guy (03:08):
To reconnect. Right. And the one thing we wanted to lean into in this conversation today is I always remember this Seth Gordon quote, and I I’m bug it. If I can remember, I’ve had a brain fart already, but the, um, better
Matt (03:21):
You than
Guy (03:21):
Me is essentially like, why, why, why wouldn’t you want to create a life that you don’t want to escape from? Mm you know, cuz I think we, we, we are led into this elusive, um, way of living that everything is externally outside of ourselves to make us deeply happy. And, and a lot of that then drives the, the wheels in motion of this constant driving and gathering and searching and, and uh, like this linear place that we were always gonna get to one day from that. And the, the big epiphany for me was in my journey was that it’s like, well, how do I create a life that I wanna fall in love with and, and love each day. And, and especially that Monday, I, this alarm clock that used to go out and terrify me, and I know you wanna lean that into a bit more, but I always find it fascinating in the industry.
Guy (04:12):
We work in now that, and I see it all the time. It’s like escape to this retreat escape and come to us and let go of all your problems and worries. And, and I think that’s just delaying the inevitable because then you’re constantly running away from something and what we want to do ensure cuz our slight tagline as well is embrace extraordinary. Right? And for me it is about, well not living a life ordinary and embracing extraordinary, then leaning into transformation and leaning into actually, no, let’s go there. Let’s actually go to the places that maybe we haven’t been taught, how to. So then we have the, the skills and Capac capacity to start to navigate our life from the heart truly on a daily basis. And that’s when I think the juice starts to really happen.
Matt (05:07):
Absolutely. You covered a lot of ground there.
Guy (05:10):
Right? I know. Sorry. I just
Matt (05:12):
.
Guy (05:13):
I think it’s normally the other way around
Matt (05:14):
It is actually. And I just, I had a couple, um, ahas, as you were talking. I think that’s one of the things that we struggled with when we were trying to define what these experiences are that we offer the three day to five day, we said retreat and we just got hung up on that word for a while. Cause it’s not really a retreat, is it? We’re not coming to a place to escape. We’re coming to a place to be found and to rediscover who we are so that we can then actually, uh, move from that authentic place in our everyday life and start making choices and taking actions from that place to create a life that then ultimately is aligned with who we truly are instead of always reaching outside of ourselves and working in a job to make the money, to get the things that are gonna fulfill us because there’s a void inside of us because we haven’t taken the time to actually be present with what is truly who I am.
Matt (06:02):
Who am I truly, what is my authentic self calling forward? I don’t know. And I’m not gonna take the time to sit in that. I’m just gonna run after things and goals. And it’s, you know, we all have experienced that is that you accomplish the goal and then there’s that, that drop because it’s like, oh, now what? And then you gotta recapitulate and find a new goal to chase after, in order to be fulfilled because there’s a lack of fulfillment within ourselves. Yeah. And to me you mentioned the fact that there’s this, um, UNE or this discomfort or this, you know, the life is something that we wanna escape from and then avoid all the problems and the challenges with those problems and challenges that are coming up are actually the body and the subconscious and the parts of ourselves screaming, saying you’re out of alignment with yourself, be with those challenges, those problems and start to resolve them. So you can like, you know, Polish the mirror, right. And start to see into the truth of who you are.
Guy (07:00):
Absolutely. Cause if we didn’t have them, how would we know? Mm. Like if we didn’t have a signal that is a pain here mm. What would be the indicator to alert us to something that’s something is not right. But we, we are so good in Western society now of keeping ourselves distracted and keeping our nervous system stimulated that we have, like this constant accelerator mode that we are in. And we are not given our time any time to start to work in and give the space to breathe to allow is what, wanting to reveal ourselves. Cause we are so connected from the head down, like
Matt (07:40):
Disconnected from the head down.
Guy (07:42):
Yeah. I was just referring to myself. no, yeah, you’re right. Disconnected. Yeah.
Matt (07:46):
Yeah. We’re only in the head.
Guy (07:48):
We’re always in the head and there’s a, there’s a, an information that’s beyond words and language that the whole body works with. But because we don’t have the intellect or we’ve not been taught the intellect and it’s subtle, we don’t know how to work with that and start to, um, COC, uh, coexist, but not coexist. It is us, you know, and actually come from that place, but not only come from that place to start trusting in that and moving forward from that, you know, because at the end of the day, what we feel, we do a really good job in is giving people the tools to empower themselves, to come up to their own conclusion themselves, their own answers themselves and start to come from that place. And that is where we feel is the true empowerment, true transformation, and actually learning how to drive this, this, this vehicle that we have called the human body. Mm-hmm to our advantage and not disadvantage.
Matt (08:54):
Absolutely.
Guy (08:55):
Yeah. Yeah.
Guy (08:57):
well, I think of, um, we’ve been dropping into bit of GABA’s work, right? Yeah. And I think about, um, what he was talking about, like so simple, but about the, that we don’t think about the environment role, like use the analogy of a plant mm-hmm . So if you have a plant in the back garden and it was wilting or something was correct, mm-hmm , you don’t necessarily just spray it with weed killer and medicate it and uh, hope the plant starts to grow better. Mm. You actually look to the environment and you, is it in the shade? Is it in the sun? Mm-hmm what’s the soil like, is it getting good nutrients in, um, what’s the, the current environment, the weather, the circumstances. So the entire environment comes into play to then nurture this moving forward. But we on a whole don’t look at the environment and our body can be the environment as well.
Matt (09:54):
Mm. So is our souls,
Guy (09:55):
So is our souls,
Matt (09:56):
But also the interconnectedness of that plant to the earth, to the sun, to the air, to the, the water, to, and if any, one of those components is polluted or disconnected or, uh, vacant, then it’s, it would start to die in atrophy a as well as the, and then if it’s starting to die, you don’t just cut a branch of the tree off and hope that the rest of it’s going to survive in those strained conditions and disconnected conditions. Like you, you nurture it, you care for it. And that’s something that I think we, we are not well versed at, in our, in ourselves, in our society. And we are on this alone. And then we go to a doctor where we go to some specialist that’s going to resolve the result, but not get to the cause
Guy (10:38):
Exactly.
Matt (10:39):
What’s there. And realizing then that we actually have access to a greater consciousness. That’s wanting to emerge through us. And that it signals us through the discomfort within our bodies, within our emotions. And this is something that Abraham leans into is that, you know, she, she alludes to, uh, Joseph Campbell’s quote, follow your bliss. And like she said, that’s the best thing that any human has ever said is to follow your bliss. Because that in essence is then the guidance system, that’s guiding you towards your authentic self, your true self. And through there, you start to move with a synergy and an alignment of the interconnectedness of all consciousness in life. And if you’re out of alignment with that, then you feel the pain, this upset the sadness, the anger, the frustration, all these emotions are just an indication that you’re disconnected from the truth of who you are. Mm. And so find ways to alleviate the pain and embrace the bliss. And you’ll start to then move more towards yourself and towards what life’s wanting to bring to you.
Guy (11:37):
Yes. But here then lies the challenge
Matt (11:39):
Indeed,
Guy (11:40):
Because if you are disconnected and you’ve never really felt what it’s like to be connected. We used to say when I was back in the fitness day and work and working with people, cause they always think they’re gonna come in. If I exercise, I’m gonna lose weight, I’m gonna feel great. And off a go and ignore any other factor beyond the maybe three hours a week, they put into the gym at best. Right, right, right. Yeah. At best. So, and quite often, what not often nine times outta 10, because the people who come in were generally driven by the pain factors of overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, whatever it might be. There’s been, there’s been a wake up call and they’re coming in, but there’s still a massive reluctance to actually change any other of the factors that could be contributed to the whole part.
Guy (12:31):
They just wanna dissect it into, it’s just this piece. And we’re not gonna look at any other factor. Right. Mm. So that was always my challenge, but what I’m getting on a tangent here, but what I always used to say, and I couldn’t believe is that people and a year ago about sugar. Right. But , but people hadn’t, hadn’t experienced in their entire life, what it was like not to have high amounts of sugar in their diet. Right. Right. And there’s a lot of research and you can, there’s a lot of great books written on it as well. But the, the complications that having over simple carbohydrates can do to the body over time and brain Foglar, you know, having a clarity of thought actually what it can do to the gut, what it can do to the, the, um, tendons and ligaments and how they can start to become toy like over time. So there’s all these symptoms, but because they hadn’t been outside of that environment once in their entire life, they didn’t know. Or couldn’t, didn’t have a through point to actually understand how great it was.
Matt (13:27):
Mm.
Guy (13:28):
And it’s like, well, how would you bridge that gap to actually have them to have an experience of that? Because once you do, there’s no way you’re going back. Mm-hmm
Matt (13:37):
,
Guy (13:39):
You know, and I always think about that with this work, because, well,
Matt (13:43):
We’re taking the sugar out of the soul. exactly. this is sugar free soul work, Mike. Exactly. exactly. Yeah. And that’s what it comes down to. And then you start to realize the subtleties within you that have been screaming in overwhelm and imbalance. Yeah. And you start to drop in. And I think that that’s the other component, cuz it’s like, well, what in my life do I want to escape from at the basis of it, you want to escape from the stressed system that you are yes. Right. You’re you’re not escaping from anything in your life you’re escaping from yourself, which is never gonna happen. Correct. And so when you come here and you try and learn, well, how do I find ways to not have bad relationships or not have a, a lack in my life or not have, uh, stress in my life.
Matt (14:28):
And these types of things are, are irrational. You can’t not have challenges. You’re gonna have challenges in your life. But the key to it is how do I manage those challenges and how do I manage myself so that I create a balance within myself that I feel full, happy, and whole. And if I can maintain that, be the eye of the storm as the life is spinning around me in this chaotic way and its ups and downs, highs, and low goods and bads, if I can maintain that sense of inner peace, inner knowing, and inner faith, then I’m home free. Then I don’t have to escape from anything because wherever I am, peace is wherever I am, harmonies, wherever I am healing is instead of perpetuating a disharmony, a lack of peace, a chaos, a stress, which is me mm-hmm . So we rework who we are and understand how to maintain that within ourselves. So that then the life around us becomes that, which we are instead of trying to change the world around us, to fix us. Yeah.
Guy (15:34):
And for everyone that’s listening to this right now. And the thing that come to me is like, wow, this sounds amazing, but that’s hard, man. It’s hard work. Or I don’t know, whatever, you know what the number one, uh, thing is for that. I always say 90% of this is just showing up.
Matt (15:51):
It’s just showing up.
Guy (15:52):
It’s just showing up.
Matt (15:54):
Well, the hardest thing, the most challenging thing is the anticipation of it or the fear of it. Like fear only has power over you when you push it away. Yeah. As soon as you step into the fear, it dissipates. Yeah.
Guy (16:06):
But it’s taken that step. Yeah. And then showing up, like, that’s what we say. Like,
Matt (16:11):
But that’s what we do here. We create a sense of safety, right? Yeah.
Guy (16:13):
But people are showing up. They, they,
Matt (16:15):
They, yeah. You’ve gotta walk. Like we can’t, we can’t drag ’em into the room.
Guy (16:18):
No, but they’ve booked and they’re showing up and they’re ready, you know? And what, you know, sometimes the wheels fall off a little bit coming in yeah. For people. But, but the, the thing is as well, even if, you know, just by putting yourself in a beautiful environment like this for three
Matt (16:33):
Days. Oh yeah. Right. And the food
Guy (16:35):
And the food. Right. Even, and, and say, you turn off your phones and you only check ’em first, you know, check ’em at breakfast and check ’em at dinner. That’s it like, we’re not even saying no technology. Right. So just that alone, imagine to one’s system, then you start layering in a sense of community of people that genuinely want to be here to resolve something within themselves to become a better human being and connect to the heart and the, the relationships that are formed, then the support network that is formed and they’ll make friends for the rest of their life. I mean, we’ve made so many friends out this, right? Like it’s, it’s insane. Then you start to put that in a container, that alone is, is so healing. Mm. Right. Just that. But then you start putting in the, the work that we teach and the
Matt (17:27):
Practices, the practices that makes
Guy (17:28):
The, you know, and the layering of, to work with the body to allow yourself to get to that truth. And then you start to have realizations epiphanies, and you have a whole, like, I can’t remember who said it, like all this work leads to is a shift in perspective. Yeah. And if you can shift your perspective on a problem or, or a past event or a future outcome, if you can truly shift your perspective and feel that in every cell of your body yeah. That’s life changing. So, and it, and it’s, and it it’s like, it all leads to this moment, this, these defining moments in our lives. And I think what we’ve done an amazing job of, if I I’m happy to say so myself, is that what we do is create a place where that is possible for people. If they show up and they’re ready to surrender into the work, you know? Absolutely. So that, that excites me. And, uh, and it’s wonderful. We’ve literally, we’ll have to stop in a minute, mate. We’re running out of time, but we’ve got a, we got 32 souls about to step through this door in about two, three hours. We got, um, we got testing this time, which we were excited about. We’ve got will was a, just a legend. He looks like the Fitz people wandering around at the moment.
Matt (18:40):
Nice too. He’s turning, dude. I gotta get some style
Guy (18:43):
Taste. I know you could tell he is, uh, 20 years younger than us. Yeah. Right. But but, um, so what we’re actually doing for a third of the participants is that the only we could fit in the time for is actually, we’re now measuring the nervous system. So the nerve at the end of the day, this work is the evolution of a nervous system. And if you can understand where the nervous system is at, then we can give the body permission to redirect itself and all sorts of things, uh, come from that healing, you know, to, uh, shifts in perspective to a numerous way of things with the anyway, I don’t wanna get into detail cause this will
Matt (19:21):
Talk about here
Guy (19:22):
In three hours. I know I know the whole, the whole retreat, but, but, but the, the point being is that, uh, then we will be remeasuring the, the, the, the participant’s nervous system at the end of the retreat. And we wanna actually start to be able to gauge and track effectively the impact, not only obviously from a spiritual, mental, emotional, but this is actually gonna lean into the physical aspect. Yeah. Um, for that as well. So we’re pretty excited around that.
Matt (19:49):
Well, I think that’s where it starts to make a lot of sense to people. Like, if there’s something tangible, when you say, look at these, these points of data here that say my nervous system was here at the beginning, this, then I come through this and now it’s here. Yeah. And these are all indications of my capacity to live more full life and a more extraordinary life. Well, you can’t argue that. Yeah. You know, everything else is subjective. Your emotions, your experience internally, like, but on paper, boom, with data points, it’s gonna be awesome to be able to share that with everyone and to, um, really validate what we’re doing, to an extent, even more so, you know, we got the testimonials, we got the word of mouth and all that people coming through and having these incredible experiences. And on top of that, there’s some data. Yes. It’s gonna be, I’m excited, mate.
Guy (20:32):
Yeah, no, me too. It’ll be good. We, we actually, I was gonna say, follow us on Instagram, uh, to get the live updates, but this is actually gonna be the least once the retreat’s finished. But if you did, this isn’t gonna help. But if you did go to our Instagram live flow Instagram, which is live.in dot flow, if type in living flow, you’ll find us. You’ll actually see by then hopefully if we’ve done our jobs correctly, bits of daily footage of behind the scenes and, and some of that technology we are actually talking about with will, um, and that, and from there, uh, any words of wisdom to finish on me before we go and I’m getting,
Matt (21:07):
Um, no, there’s been a lot of rain up here. Those mosies are just coming at us. They’re big. Yeah. good thing. We’re a screen. They,
Guy (21:14):
They like Welsh blood mate.
Matt (21:15):
Yeah, they must. Um, no, I think I got nothing. I got nothing. I’m I’m excited. And let’s just move forward. Got words of wisdom for the end of this.
Guy (21:26):
No, just thanks for listening. Um, if you got something out of this, please share with a loved one of friends. Um, if it makes sense, if you are genuinely curious about, um, and you feel a pull to come to the next retreat, um, we got a couple of spots left for July and we got, um, we got some spots left for the five night in August as well, where we can even extend the work and go deeper.
Matt (21:47):
Right. That’s incredible. The five 90
Guy (21:50):
And we’re, we’re actually planning on hopefully fingers crossed, uh, bringing Petra out for the five night in August this year as well. That’s
Matt (21:57):
Right.
Guy (21:57):
We’re just try if the stars align that will happen as well. So if you feel a pull, we’d love to meet you in person, come and join us. I promise you, you won’t regret it.
Matt (22:05):
Yeah. Yeah. And I just wanna say one more thing to that. You know, like we, we’re seeing it firsthand and there’s a momentum that’s happening as things are opening up again, is that we are not alone. If you feel like you’re alone, you feel like you’re stuck in your life and, and you’re struggling. Like there are places like this that we’re offering that you’re not alone. And there’s others that are wanting to move forward and create a better life for themselves and for each other. So don’t, I mean, don’t just feel hopeless. You know, there is hope there is possibility
Guy (22:35):
And as unique and beautiful as every human being is, and we all have beautiful souls. We’re not that fucking unique either when it comes to our shit that we carry and you start to realize when you come here, wow, ,
Matt (22:48):
We’ve
Guy (22:48):
All got stuff to work through. We’re all pretty fucked. And it gives us
Matt (22:53):
Guy (22:53):
I speak for yourself, mate. But it, it, it genuinely gives us permission to, to, to really lean into this work then. And, and when you, when you’re seeing somebody twice your age, like a warrior going for it, it’s so inspiring, so inspiring. And, uh, and, and I know in Nara, I’m sure you’re gonna get to this podcast one day and you’re still listening to this, my beautiful lady. Um, you still inspire me to this day and your video that you did at the first retreat, um, where we filmed still moves me every time I watch in my love. So thank you. Mm. Yeah. Amazing. All right.
Matt (23:29):
Thanks everyone. Thanks
Guy (23:30):
Guys. Hope you enjoyed. And, uh, you soon.
